তাঁহাতেই করা যাইবে, যাঁহাতে আমরা ঈশ্বরের অধিকারস্বরূপও হইয়াছি। বাস্তবিক যিনি সকলই আপন ইচ্ছার মন্ত্রণানুসারে সাধন করেন, তাঁহার সঙ্কল্প অনুসারে আমরা পূর্ব্বে নিরূপিত হইয়াছিলাম;

ঈশ্বরের লোক হবার জন্য আমরা খ্রীষ্টে মনোনীত হয়েছিলাম। ঈশ্বর পূর্বেই স্থির করেছিলেন যে আমরা তাঁর আপনজন হব, তাই ছিল ঈশ্বরের অভিপ্রায়। ঈশ্বর যা চান বা যা করার সিদ্ধান্ত নেন, তাঁর ইচ্ছানুসারে তা সম্পন্ন করেন।

In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will,

In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:

উদ্দেশ্য এই, পূর্ব্ব হইতে খ্রীষ্টে প্রত্যাশা করিয়াছি যে আমরা, আমাদের দ্বারা যেন ঈশ্বরের প্রতাপের প্রশংসা হয়। 

খ্রীষ্টের ওপর যাঁরা প্রত্যাশা করেছে তাদের মধ্যে আমরা অগ্রণী। আমাদের মনোনীত করা হয়েছে যেন আমরা ঈশ্বরের মহিমার প্রশংসা করি।

so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory.

That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.

সম্পূর্ণ নম্রতা ও মৃদুতা সহকারে, দীর্ঘসহিষ্ণুতা সহকারে চল;

তোমরা সর্বদাই নতনম্র থাক, সহিষ্ণু হও, ভালবেসে একে অপরকে গ্রহণ কর।

with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love.

With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

প্রেমে পরস্পর ক্ষমাশীল হও, শান্তির যোগবন্ধনে আত্মার ঐক্য রক্ষা করিতে যত্নবান্‌ হও।

ভালবেসে একে অপরকে গ্রহণ কর। পবিত্র আত্মা তোমাদের যুক্ত করেছিলেন। সেই একতা রক্ষা করার জন্য সর্বোত্তমভাবে চেষ্টা কর।

bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

forbearing one another in love; Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.

সকলের ঈশ্বর ও পিতা এক, তিনি সকলের উপরে, সকলের নিকটে ও সকলের অন্তরে আছেন।

আর আছেন এক ঈশ্বর যিনি সকলের পিতা। যিনি সকলের ওপরে কর্তৃত্ত্ব করেন। তিনি সর্বত্র আছেন ও সবকিছুতে আছেন।

one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.

অতএব তোমরা, যাহা মিথ্যা, তাহা ত্যাগ করিয়া প্রত্যেকে আপন আপন প্রতিবাসীর সহিত সত্য আলাপ করিও; কারণ আমরা পরস্পর অঙ্গ প্রত্যঙ্গ।

অতএব, তোমাদের প্রত্যেকে মিথ্যাচার ত্যাগ করে প্রতিবেশীর সঙ্গে সত্য কথা বলো, কারণ আমরা সকলে একই দেহের অঙ্গপ্রত্যঙ্গ।

Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another.

Wherefore putting away lying, speak every man truth with his neighbour: for we are members one of another.

ক্রুদ্ধ হইলে পাপ করিও না; সূর্য্য অস্ত না যাইতে যাইতে তোমাদের কোপাবেশ শান্ত হউক;

“ক্রোধের বশবর্তী হয়ে পাপ কোরো না।” সূর্য অস্ত যাওয়ার আগেই তোমাদের ক্রোধ প্রশমিত হোক।

Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger,

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:

আর দিয়াবলকে স্থান দিও না।

দিয়াবলকে প্রশ্রয় দিয়ো না।

and give no opportunity to the devil.

Neither give place to the devil.

চোর আর চুরি না করুক, বরং স্বহস্তে সদ্ব্যাপারে পরিশ্রম করুক, যেন দীনহীনকে দিবার জন্য তাহার হাতে কিছু থাকে।

যে চুরি করতে অভ্যস্ত, সে যেন আর চুরি না করে, বরং নিজের হাতে পরিশ্রমের দ্বারা সৎ উপায়ে উপার্জন করে; দুস্থদের সাহায্য করার মতো তার হাতে যেন কিছু উদ্বৃত্ত থাকে।

Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need.

Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labour, working with his hands the thing which is good, that he may have to give to him that needeth.

আর প্রেমে চল, যেমন খ্রীষ্টও তোমাদিগকে প্রেম করিলেন এবং আমাদের জন্য ঈশ্বরের উদ্দেশে, সৌরভের নিমিত্ত, উপহার ও বলিরূপে আপনাকে উৎসর্গ করিলেন।

ভালবাসাপূর্ণ জীবনযাপন কর। খ্রীষ্ট আমাদের যেমন ভালবেসেছেন তেমনি করে অপরকে ভালবাস। খ্রীষ্ট আমাদের জন্য নিজেকে ঈশ্বরের উদ্দেশ্যে সৌরভযুক্ত বলিরূপে উৎসর্গ করলেন।

And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweetsmelling savour.

অতএব তোমরা ভাল করিয়া দেখ, কিরূপে চলিতেছ; অজ্ঞানের ন্যায় না চলিয়া জ্ঞানবানের ন্যায় চল।

তাই তোমরা কিরকম জীবনযাপন করছ, সেদিকে বিশেষ সতর্ক দৃষ্টি রেখো। নির্বোধ লোকদের মত চলো না, কিন্তু জ্ঞানবানের মতো চল।

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise;

See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise;

সুযোগ কিনিয়া লও, কেননা এই কাল মন্দ।

সময় বড় খারাপ, এইজন্য ভাল কিছু করার সুযোগ পেলে তার সদ্বব্যবহার করো।

making the best use of the time, because the days are evil.

Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.

এই কারণ নির্ব্বোধ হইও না, কিন্তু প্রভুর ইচ্ছা কি, তাহা বুঝ। 

তাই নিজেদের জীবন নিয়ে অবোধের মতো চলো না। বুঝতে চেষ্টা কর যে প্রভু তোমাকে দিয়ে কি কাজ করাতে চান।

Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is.

Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.

আর দ্রাক্ষারসে মত্ত হইও না, তাহাতে নষ্টামি আছে; কিন্তু আত্মাতে পরিপূর্ণ হও;

দ্রাক্ষারস পান করে মাতাল হয়ো না, তাতে আত্মিক জীবন ধ্বংস হয়ে যাবে; তার পরিবর্তে পবিত্র আত্মায় পূর্ণ হও।

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit;

And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit;

গীত, স্তোত্র ও আত্মিক সঙ্কীর্ত্তনে পরস্পর আলাপ কর; আপন আপন অন্তঃকরণে প্রভুর উদ্দেশে গান ও বাদ্য কর;

গীতসংহিতার স্তোত্র ও আত্মিক সংকীর্তনে তোমরা একে অপরের সাথে আলাপ কর। গাও আর অন্তরে প্রভুর উদ্দেশ্যে সুরেলা সঙ্গীত রচনা কর।

addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart;

Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

সর্ব্বদা সর্ব্ববিষয়ের নিমিত্ত আমাদের প্রভু যীশু খ্রীষ্টের নামে পিতা ঈশ্বরের ধন্যবাদ কর;

আমাদের প্রভু যীশু খ্রীষ্টের নামে সব সময় সব কিছুর জন্য আমাদের ঈশ্বর ও পিতাকে সর্বদা ধন্যবাদ দাও।

giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ;

খ্রীষ্টের ভয়ে এক জন অন্য জনের বশীভূত হও।

স্বেচ্ছায় তোমরা একে অপরের কাছে নত থাক। খ্রীষ্টের প্রতি তোমাদের শ্রদ্ধার জন্যে তা কর।

submitting to one another out of reverence for Christ.

Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God.

সন্তানেরা, তোমরা প্রভুতে পিতামাতার আজ্ঞাবহ হও, কেননা তাহা ন্যায্য।

ছেলেমেয়েরা, প্রভু যেভাবে চান সেইভাবে তোমাদের বাবা মাকে মেনে চলো; তোমাদের উচিত তাদের বাধ্য হওয়া।

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right.

আর পিতারা, তোমরা আপন আপন সন্তানদিগকে ক্রুদ্ধ করিও না, বরং প্রভুর শাসনে ও চেতনা প্রদানে তাহাদিগকে মানুষ করিয়া তুল।

তোমরা যারা সন্তানের বাবা, আমি তোমাদের বলছি, তোমরা তোমাদের সন্তানদের ক্রুদ্ধ করো না, বরং প্রভু যেমন চান সেইরূপ শাসন করে ও শিক্ষা দিয়ে তাদের মানুষ করে তোল।

Fathers, do not provoke your children to anger, but bring them up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord.

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

শেষ কথা এই, তোমরা প্রভুতে ও তাঁহার শক্তির পরাক্রমে বলবান্‌ হও।

চিঠি শেষ করার আগে তোমাদের এই কথাই বলি, তোমরা প্রভুতে বলবান হও, তাঁরই মহাশক্তিতে শক্তিমান হও।

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.

ঈশ্বরের সমগ্র যুদ্ধসজ্জা পরিধান কর, যেন দিয়াবলের নানাবিধ চাতুরীর সম্মুখে দাঁড়াইতে পার।

তোমরা ঈশ্বরের দেওয়া সমগ্র যুদ্ধসাজ পরে নাও, যেন দিয়াবলের সমস্ত কৌশলের বিরুদ্ধে রুখে দাঁড়াতে পার।

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil.

Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
